7.9. Section 125 Plans

The Diocese of Springfield in Illinois offers a pretax contribution option for employees. This employee benefit is known as the Section 125 Plan.

The Section 125 Plan is a benefit plan that allows employees to make contributions toward premiums for medical insurance, dental insurance, and vision care insurance on a “before tax”, rather than an “after tax” basis. Employee premium contributions are deducted from your gross pay before income taxes and Social Security is calculated.

To participate in this Plan, complete an election form and return it to the Office for Insurance and Benefits at the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois Catholic Pastoral Center.

Employees cannot make any changes to the pretax contributions until the next open enrollment period, unless your family status changes, or you become eligible for a special enrollment period due to a loss of coverage. Family status changes include marriage, divorce, death of a spouse or child, birth or adoption of a child, or discharge of employment of your spouse. A change in election due to a change in family status is on the date of the qualifying event.
