The Office for Finance by universal law administers the financial needs of the diocese under the authority of the bishop. This is in accordance with the general budget of income and expense determined through the bishop's priorities with the assistance of the appointed Diocesan Finance Council.

The office's primary responsibility is to administer the temporal goods of the church for the bishop. Providing professional service and support for the parishes and institutions of the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois is also an important part of the office's mission.
