6.9. Authorization for Use of Personal Vehicle

All employees required to operate a motor vehicle as part of their employment duties must maintain a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and appropriate insurance coverage. The Diocese of Springfield in Illinois will run a motor vehicle department check to determine an employee’s driving record, including, but not limited to, driving infractions or changes to his/her insurance policy. Any changes or infractions must be reported to the Director of the Office for Insurance Risk Management at the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois Catholic Pastoral Center.

If an employee uses his/her personal vehicle in the course and scope of employment, the employee may not operate such vehicle while:

  1. Under the influence of drugs, alcohol, recreational or medical marijuana, or any other substance, legal or prescribed, that might impair the employee’s judgment or ability to drive; or
  2. Texting, emailing, or otherwise using a cell phone or other handheld device without utilizing a hands-free device.

All employees are expected to obey all traffic laws while operating a motor vehicle during their work.
