Why do we call the archangels “saints”? I thought only humans can be saints.

The English word “saint” comes to us through Old French from the Latin word “sanctus,” meaning “holy” or “set apart.” Consequently, when we speak of St. Damien or St. Marianne, we speak of Holy Damien or Holy Marianne.
To refer to the Archangel Michael as St. Michael in no way implies that he is human. Rather, it simply states that he is holy, that his will is set apart for God.
We also remember that saints are holy because they are in heaven.
