DAEC_LogoThe Diocesan Adult Enrichment Conference, subsidized by the Annual Catholic Services Appeal, is a biennial event sponsored by the Office for Catechesis of the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois.

The 2010 DAEC will be held November 7-8 at the Decatur Hotel and Conference Center. The theme of the conference is Entering the Mystery, Renewing the People.

Our keynote speakers will be Fr. Richard Fragomeni and Fr. Paul Turner.

About the Speakers

fragomeniA widely known and well received homilist and public speaker, Fr. Richard Fragomeni teaches at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago where he is associate professor of liturgy and preaching and chairperson of the Department of Word and Worship. In 2004 Cardinal Francis George appointed Rev. Fragomeni as rector of the Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii, an Italian-American spiritual center in Chicago's Little Italy neighborhood.

A Roman Catholic priest from the Diocese of Albany, New York Fr. Fragomeni completed his S.T.B. in theology and M.A. in religious studies at the University of Louvain, Belgium. He was sent by his bishop to pursue an M.A. in liturgical studies at Catholic University, Washington, D.C., completed his work in liturgy in 1975, and was ordained on August 15 of the same year.

He has been most active in the implementation of The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults in the United States, Canada, Scotland and England. He served as the coordinator of liturgy and music for the North American Forum on the Catechumenate and as a member of the founding Board of Directors of that organization. He has been most active in parish renewals and with diocesan workshops on Liturgy and Music.

Fr. Fragomeni has contributed articles to a range of journals including Pastoral Music, Catechumenate, The New Theology Review, Modern Liturgy, Assembly, Concilium, and the liturgical planning guides for the Campaign for Human Development and The Liturgical Conference. His most recent publication, Blessed Art Thou: Mother, Lady, Mystic, Queen, which he co-authored with Brother Michael O'Neill McGrath, won second place for spirituality books in 2005 from the Catholic Press Association.

turnerFr. Paul Turner is pastor of St. Munchin parish in Cameron, Missouri, and its mission, St. Aloysius in Maysville. A priest of the diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, he holds a doctorate in sacred theology from Sant' Anselmo in Rome.

His books include The Catholic Wedding Answer Book (Resource Publications, 2001), Let Us Pray: A Guide to the Rubrics of Sunday Mass (Liturgical Press, 2006), When Other Christians Become Catholic (Liturgical Press, 2007), and Celebrating Initiation: A Guide For Priests (World Library Publications, 2008). He writes "Bulletin Inserts" for Ministry and Liturgy.

He is a former President of the North American Academy of Liturgy and a team member for the North American Forum on the Catechumenate. He serves as a facilitator for the International Commission on English in the Liturgy.
